Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
